Practical Additions to Support Risk Management

The products listed on this page are intended to support practical noise and vibration management at the point of use. They are designed for situations where risks are linked to specific tools or equipment, providing clear visual prompts to support correct use, exposure awareness and site controls.

HAV Tool Tags (hand–arm vibration awareness)

These HAV tool tags are a practical, visual reminder that a particular tool produces vibration and will contribute to an operative’s daily hand–arm vibration exposure. They are intended to be fitted directly to individual tools so that vibration is considered before use, rather than after exposure has already accumulated.

The tags are colour-coded based on the measured vibration level of the tool. Green is typically used for tools measured below 2.5 m/s², orange for tools in the 2.5–4.9 m/s² range, and red for tools measured at 5 m/s² or above. A red tag does not mean a tool must not be used; it indicates that this is not a tool that can be used without considering what other vibration-producing tasks are being carried out during the day, whether the tool is appropriate for the job, and how long it is used for.

Each tag shows the measured vibration level for the tool, along with the maximum recommended usage time and HSE exposure points per hour. For tools that are typically used for short periods - such as impact wrenches or reciprocating saws - points per minute are also shown to support more realistic exposure tracking.

The tags are robust and suitable for use in demanding environments. Multiple fixing holes allow flexible attachment using cable ties, and the surface can be written on using a suitable marker without the information rubbing off.

Small tools and individual equipment hearing protection signage:

These small, tool-specific hearing protection signs are designed for situations where a traditional “hearing protection zone” sign simply doesn’t work. They are intended for individual items of equipment or portable plant that generate the dominant noise in an otherwise quiet area - such as ride-on mowers, mobile machinery, standalone tools, or equipment stored in tool cupboards. In these cases, hearing protection is only required when the equipment is in use, not continuously within the room or area.

Unlike standard wall-mounted signage, these signs are applied directly to the tool or placed immediately at the point of use, providing a clear, unambiguous prompt at the moment it matters. All signs are supplied as durable, waterproof vinyl labels suitable for harsh working environments, helping to reinforce correct hearing protection use without unnecessarily over-designating entire areas.
